Fertility Specialist

A doctor or expert at a Reproductive Fertility Center, also commonly known as a Fertility Clinic, is called a Fertility Specialist. This specialist helps people who wish to become parents but are struggling to conceive. Infertility is best treated by a Fertility Specialist at a clinic such as Oregon Reproductive Medicine.

Oregon Reproductive Medicine, located in Portland, Oregon, is among the highest in the nation for successful fertility treatments ending in a live birth for women under 35 years old.

Diagnosis By a Fertility Specialist

Fertility Specialists at Oregon Reproductive Medicine will first do a complete examination to diagnose any physical problems that may result in infertility, including:

  • Exhaustive health and reproductive history
  • Tests of the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, and cervix
  • Tests of the fallopian tubes
  • Semen analysis

Once a full assessment is completed, our Fertility Specialists will discuss with you the infertility treatments that can best increase your chances of conceiving.

Infertility Treatment Options

Reproductive Fertility Specialists will base their treatment on what is best for each individual patient. The best option will depend on a person’s individual situation, history, and desired outcome. Options include:

Oral Medications / Injectable Medication

These medications increase fertility by stimulating ovulation through the release of gonadotropins from the pituitary gland. These often accompany other treatment(s).

IUI (Intra Uterine Insemination)

A type of treatment in which sperm is washed and introduced directly into the uterus around the time of ovulation.

IVF (In Vitro Fertilization)

This treatment uses assisted reproductive technology to fertilize a woman’s eggs outside her body.

Male Factor Treatments

These fertility treatments address any cause of infertility because of a male’s low sperm count or function.

Egg Preservation

Viable eggs can be preserved for later use. This is often done when cancer treatment or other factors are likely to cause future fertility problems.

Egg and/or Sperm Donation

Egg and sperm donations allow an embryo to be created with either male or female factor infertility or both.

Once a full assessment is completed, fertility specialists will discuss with you which reproductive treatment can best increase your chances of conceiving.

Learn More About Choosing a Reproductive Fertility Center

In addition to the fertility treatments themselves, we urge you to consider your timeline, comprehensive financial and insurance information, success rate statistics, and in-person visits when choosing what fertility clinic to entrust with your future.
