Meet Dr. Adams
Shannel Adams, MD, is a board-eligible reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist who joined Oregon Reproductive Medicine (ORM) in August 2017.
Growing up in a family of strong-minded and nurturing women inspired Dr. Adams to go into medicine. “For me, the reason I’m here is because I had strong female role models who were passionate about taking care of other women. I find that it’s an honor and a privilege to be a trusted presence in women’s lives, to care for them and to significantly impact their lives.”
The importance of community has been a common thread for Dr. Adams throughout her journey to becoming a doctor. Born and raised in Portland and a St. Mary’s Academy alumni, she is a part of a large, tightly knit family. It’s this type of support and closeness that has inspired her to become the type of doctor she is today. “I want my patients to know that we’re in this together. I always emphasize that I’m here to support them and will give them the very best care possible, and always have their best interests at heart.”
“As someone who delayed family for school, this is a topic that is close to my heart. Just because you chose to pursue your career first, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be able to have a family of your own when the time is right.”
During her clinical fellowship, Dr. Adams broadened her breadth of knowledge and focused her research on the male side of reproduction, specifically looking at epigenetic regulation for spermatogenesis, and male stress associated to infertility workup and treatment. Dr. Adams believes in holistic patient care and caring for the mind and body of all her patients.
Dr. Adams is also passionate about fertility preservation and helping women make informed decisions about their reproductive timeline, so they can have a family when the timing is right for them. “As someone who delayed family for school, this is a topic that is close to my heart. Just because you chose to pursue your career first, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be able to have a family of your own when the time is right.”
