Age & Infertility

Many societal factors are at play here that are delaying child bearing for an increasingly larger number of people around the world.

In our modern world the delay of having children is common. Many singles and couples seek to establish careers before having kids. Others wish to focus on financial security before starting their family. In addition, the average age for marriage continues to climb.

Many societal factors are at play here that are delaying child bearing for an increasingly larger number of people around the world.

Because there is an unavoidable gradual decline in fertility for women, particularly noticeable for those over the age of 30, these societal factors have resulted in more people needing intervention when trying to grow their family. Increasingly, people want to have babies during the same period when there is a natural biological decline in fertility.

Why does fertility decline as I grow older?

    * Aging of the ovaries and eggs.
    * The uterine lining may have decreasing ability to receive an embryo.
    * Genetic abnormalities increase with age.
    * Gynecological complications tend to increase with age.
    * Decrease in libido can become a factor.
    * Sperm quality may decrease

Many will become pregnant without intervention. But for those who struggle to achieve a pregnancy the most important thing to know is how long to wait before seeking help.

Definition of Infertility:

Females under 35-years-old:
Failure to conceive following one year of unprotected intercourse.

Females over 35-years-old:
Failure to conceive following 6 months of unprotected intercourse.

Females over 40-years-old:
Failure to conceive following 3 months of unprotected intercourse

For those struggling to get pregnant there is hope. That’s why we try to educate those that find themselves facing this challenge to not wait too long. Diagnosis can be easy. And many treatment options are available today.
