Diagnosis

If you are having a difficult time conceiving on your own your own, you are in the right place. Getting evaluated by an infertility specialist is the first, and right, step.

If you are having a difficult time conceiving on your own your own, you are in the right place. Getting evaluated by an infertility specialist is the first, and right, step.

Many people struggling with infertility wait too long to seek professional help.  Some wait years. If you are having difficulty making the decision about whether to move forward to get evaluated, consider the standard definition of infertility.

Definition of Infertility

Females under 35-years-old:
Failure to conceive following one year of unprotected intercourse.

Females over 35-years-old:
Failure to conceive following 6 months of unprotected intercourse.

Females over 40-years-old:
Failure to conceive following 3 months of unprotected intercourse.

Wading through the complicated information about infertility treatment can be almost as stressful as the diagnosis itself. If you’re weighing the pros and cons of undergoing possible treatment for infertility and trying to decide what to do, Oregon Reproductive Medicine can help.

Our physicians will first do a complete work-up to diagnose any physical problems that may result in infertility.

Diagnostic tools may include:

    * Initial interview including health and reproductive history
    * Tests of the uterus
    * Tests of the fallopian tubes
    * Tests of the ovaries
    * Test of the cervix
    * Semen analysis

Once a full assessment is completed --- usually including evaluation of the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, cervix and sperm quality --- our physicians will discuss with you the treatment options to enhance the chances of conception.

Treatment Options may include:

    * Oral medications or injectable medication
    * IUI (Intra Uterine Insemination)
    * IVF (In Vitro Fertilization)
    * IVF with ICSI
    * PGD (Pre-genetic Diagnosis)
    * IVF with Donor Eggs
    * IVF with a Gestation Carrier
    * Male Factor Treatment
    * Surgical Treatment
    * Egg Preservation
    * Egg and/or Sperm Donation

Other things to consider are: the treatment options and processes, comprehensive financial and insurance information, success rate statistics, and in-depth information about how each treatment is performed. We encourage you to consider everything and feel free to ask questions as you work toward a conclusion about what to do after unsuccessful attempts at conceiving a child.
