Data from a recent U.S. fertility survey of couples
SURVEY HIGHLIGHTS
The survey, conducted September, 2009, consisted of more than 60 questions. Women were between 18 and 44 years old while the men were between 18 and 54 years old.
All participants surveyed had difficulty getting pregnant the past 24 months prior to the survey. A total of 585 couples were surveyed by Merck.
54% of women incorrectly assume that fertility beings to decline at age 36 or older
62% of women surveyed believe news stories about celebrities over 40 having babies are good because they give hope.
91% of couples would have seen a specialist sooner if they could do it all over again.
57% of women surveyed received unsolicited advice from family and friends
20% are told to work less hours
39% are told to change their diet
33% are told they'll get pregnant if they start the adoption process
78% are told to just relax
36% are told to get more exercise
29% are told to take a vacation
