Egg Donation FAQ

How long will the egg donation process take?
Once you are selected as a donor, your egg collection should occur within 8-12 weeks.
Will egg donation now affect my fertility or ability to have children in the future?
No. Egg donation should not affect your fertility or your ability to have children. Women have over 400,000 eggs and less that 500 of these are released naturally during a woman`s lifetime. Eggs that are not ovulated by the body go through a process called "atresia", or absorption, because they fail to mature. Fertility medications only utilize these eggs for the retrieval process. Many women who participate in the egg donation process donate several times and go on to have children of their own.
How will I be compensated for the time it takes to be an egg donor?
We appreciate the commitment of our clients and compensate each egg donor $6,000 or more for each completed donation.
Will the egg donation process cause me to miss school or work?
Most egg donor appointments are usually scheduled in the early morning, so you will not have to take large amounts of time off from work or school in order to participate. The egg retrieval procedure itself takes about 30 minutes, we require donors to rest at their clinic afterwards for about three hours. We tell all donors to plan on resting the entire day of the donation.
Will I need to travel to participate in the egg donation program? As an egg donor, is out-of-state travel my financial responsibility?
The egg retrieval will take place at Oregon Reproductive Medicine. If you need to travel to Portland for the retrieval your airfare, hotel accommodations, meals and transportation are coordinated by Exceptional Donors for you and a companion, and are paid for by the recipients. Please let us know if you are willing to leave your hometown for 5-14 days in order to donate. Many donors view such travel as a “mini-vacation”, as there is usually a lot of free time to sight-see and the donor can be accompanied by a family member or friend.
