Brandon Bankowski, MD, MPH
Brandon J. Bankowski, MD, MPH, is originally from South Bend, Indiana. He received his bachelor’s degree in Biomechanical Engineering from Cornell University where he also played intercollegiate football for 3 years. His medical degree was received from the Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Bankowski completed an internship and residency in Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Johns Hopkins Hospital which has been ranked by U.S. News and World Report as the #1 hospital in the U.S. for the last 17 years. As a resident, he was the Chief Editor of the Johns Hopkins Manual in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was a Parke-Davis Scholar Lecturer, an Organon USA Inc. Resident Research Award Winner, and twice elected Outstanding Medical Student Educator. During medical school and residency, he participated in health-care programs in Baja, Mexico, Thailand, and Kenya. Dr. Bankowski spent whatever free time he had in residency with his family sailing on the Chesapeake Bay.
He completed sub-specialty fellowship training in all aspects of Assisted Reproductive Technology at the Howard & Georgeanna Jones Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility of the Johns Hopkins Hospital. During his fellowship, he also attained a Master’s Degree in Public Health and a Certificate in Health Management His focus during his public health training was to study the social and economic impact that infertility has on the health of populations.
Dr. Bankowski is a member of the ASRM Special Interest Group on Fertility Preservation, the ASRM Sub-Committee on Social & Ethical Aspects of Fertility Preservation, and the European Society of Human Reproduction & Embryology.Locally, he is an active member of the Portland Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Metropolitan Society of Portland Physicians.
Dr. Bankowski specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of infertility and has special interests in in vitro fertilization (IVF), egg freezing (vitrification), and complex uterine hysteroscopic surgery.
Dr. Bankowski’s recent research, which was presented at the annual European Congress on Human Reproduction in Prague, concerned Northwest fertility patients’ use of alternative medical practices (such as acupuncture, massage, and stress reduction) to aid their fertility.
When he and his wife, Susan, are not at their home in Portland with their young son and daughter and their lazy black lab Daisy, they are often trying to keep up with them skiing on the slopes of snowy Mount Hood.
