Dr. Bankowski studied Bio-mechanical Engineering at Cornell University and played inter-collegiate football. After finishing his medical degree at Georgetown University, he completed his training in Gynecology and Obstetrics and his advanced training in fertility care from the Johns Hopkins Hospital. For 21 consecutive years, the Johns Hopkins Hospital was ranked the #1 institution in the United States by US News and World Report out of over 4800 hospitals.
His Master’s degree studying the reproductive health of populations was achieved during this time from The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, which was also ranked as the top public health school in the United States.
Since 2005, he has practiced at Oregon Reproductive Medicine a comprehensive, state-of the-art fertility center which has enjoyed among the highest success rates for fertility care in the world. Dr. Bankowski is fluent in all manner of fertility treatments including donor egg and gestational carrier (surrogacy) cycles. ORM is now also able to offer one of the most advanced embryo testing technique possible, comprehensive chromosome screening. This technique allows ORM to get an incredible wealth of information on the normalcy of every chromosome in the embryo including the sex chromosomes (X and Y).
Dr. Bankowski has experience working abroad in Africa and Asia. At ORM, he has treated patients with diverse conditions from all over the U.S. and from over 20 different countries on 5 continents. Locally, Dr. Bankowski serves on the OHSU Stem Cell Research Oversight Committee. He is a member of the Portland Ob-Gyn Society and an invited guest of the Pacific Coast Obstetrical and Gynecologic Society. He has lectured on the ethics of reducing multiple pregnancies at the Kinsman Annual Bioethics Meeting.
Dr. Bankowski is known for clinical skills and his calm and reassuring manner. He lives with his wife, Susan, in Southwest Portland. In addition to caring for fertility patients, he grows blueberries, enjoys coaching soccer, and walking their black lab. Their family of 2 elementary-aged school children was joined, at long last, by 2 beautiful twin boys in 2010.
